What Funeral Arrangements Can We Cater For?
We aim to work with you in order to cater for and ‘make happen’ the type of funeral arrangements that you want. Our sole aim is to work with you to make it special.
This list is not exhaustive, so if there is something that you would like to talk about that is not listed below then please contact us on 01453 767769.
Some Examples of Basic Funeral Arrangements:
Traditional burial: typically, a service at the church or cemetery chapel led by a minister, with a traditional coffin brought in our hearse, followed by burial in the churchyard or the local cemetery.
Simple cremation: A service led by a minister in the crematorium chapel, with a traditional coffin brought in our hearse, followed by the cremation.
Green Burial: A ceremony led by a minister, friend or celebrant in a specially chosen venue, followed by burial in a natural woodland burial site, or on your own land. In this situation the coffin would be biodegradable, so for example it would be made from cardboard, woven willow, bamboo, sea-grass, etc.
Burial at Sea: The funeral service can be held locally, to then be followed by burial at sea in full maritime tradition a day or so later. The nearest port of embarkation is in Lymington in Hampshire, about 17 miles East of Bournemouth.
We then sail out to the ‘Needles’, West of the Isle of Wight for a service on the boat followed by the burial.
Which Coffins and Urns Are Most Suitable?
Whilst the fully furnished, traditional wooden coffin and the conventional urn are still popular choices today, there are now a number of alternatives available that are made in a number of different styles and from a wide range of different materials.
You can choose from our wide range of burial coffins and cremation urns in both traditional and environmentally friendly materials. Our aim is to ensure that every detail of your funeral arrangements is taken care of as you would like.
Our range of coffins and urns is not exhaustive, so if there is something that you would like that is not listed then please do not hesitate to ask us.
Some Ways of Making The Funeral Special
We have a lot of experience in tailoring funeral arrangements to our clients needs and requirements. From this experience, below are some suggestions that can help make the day a little more personal and special:
- 1) Include the Minister in a briefing meeting with us, to help them (and you) make the most of every opportunity of making the service personal. If you do not have a particular religious faith, we can put you in touch with a Humanist minister, or an independent celebrant who will create a beautiful and personal ceremony with you.
- 2) Members of the family and friends can carry the coffin – and even decorate it - themselves Double time can be booked at the crematorium (for approximately one third more than the regular price).
- 3) Candles can be used in many locations. Please contact us for details.
- 4) The service can include your own choice of special music, played live or on a CD. You can also have a time of silence, tributes, songs, poetry, letters and memories spoken by friends, colleagues and family members – including children.
- 5) People can bring flowers from their gardens; these can be put on the coffin, or used to line the grave. Instead of being left at the crematorium, they can be taken to the gathering afterwards, or to a local care home or hospice.
- 6) Similarly for ashes following the cremation, there is an increasingly wide range of possibilities and we would be pleased to guide you through any of these, so please contact us for details.
